Kingdom of God–The Church Institution

kg4“And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:19

“But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels,  to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect.” Hebrews 12:22-23

The Kingdom as an Institution tends to focus a great deal upon the structure and structures.  There is nothing wrong with denominations when they remain alive and vibrant. Unfortunately, they are plagued with patriarchy, nepotism, and tradition, that results in a movement becoming a monument (looking back) and finally a mausoleum (a dead place).

Peter reminds us that we are to be,”as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.  Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.”  Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone,”  and “A stone of stumbling And a rock of offense.” They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.  But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 1 Peter 2:5-9

This aspect of the Kingdom was designed by God to be charismatic and organic. Filled with the life of the Spirit and with the priesthood of believers ministering out of that life source.

“and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” Revelation 1:6
