Devotions for Lent–Ps 91 Secret Place

Perichoresis

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”  (Psa 91:1-2 NKJ)

The Dance of God, also known as the Perichoresis is a Greek term used to describe the triune relationship between each person of the Godhead to the one undivided essence. Alister McGrath writes that it “allows the individuality of the persons to be maintained while insisting that each person shares in the life of the other two. An image often used to express this idea is that of a ‘community of being,’ in which each person, while maintaining its distinctive identity, penetrates the others and is penetrated by them.”

In the center of the dance is the secret place.  As God moves around us and about us, and over us, we are safe and secure in him. The enemy cannot penetrate that space. God truly is our refuge, our fortress, someone we can trust.
