Devotions for Lent–Washed in the Blood!

Then I finally admitted to you all my sins, refusing to hide them any longer. I said, “My life-giving God, I will openly acknowledge my evil actions.” And you forgave me! All at once the guilt of my sin washed away and all my pain disappeared! (Ps 32:5, The Passion)

“Harness the power of oxygen with this super-convenient, fast-acting spray stain remover! It clings to fabric fibers, diving deep into problem laundry stains and odors with a unique formula that begins to remove stains on contact—right before your eyes.” (OxiClean™)

As good as Oxiclean might be there are some stains that cannot be removed with a ‘super-convenient, fast-acting stain remover, it’s called sin.  Robert Lowery realized that when he wrote, “What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.” (Lowery, 1850)

It would be centuries before the blood of Jesus would be shed, yet, somehow, David had the foresight of faith to believe God for the cleansing tide.  How much more can we have that assurance of faith, knowing what happened at Calvery?
